چکیده

The aim of this study was to apply a spectral reflectance approach to account for small amounts of sediment dust in occupied homes. We examined the method’s ability to predict the gravimetric weight of sediment dust particles solely from the reflectance data (400-2400 nm). Multivariate data analysis based on Partial Least Squares (PLS) regression was run to predict the dust loads solely from reflectance data. For both experiments use of difference index (when the dust trap background spectra was subtracted from the total measured reflectance) in the PLS analyses was found to demonstrate the best pretreatment in PLS modeling. Maps of dust distribution, based both, on the reference gravimetric and spectrally predicted weight values was generated. Reasonable explanation was provided to the calculated distribution that can be further used by decision makers to improve the indoor life quality. We conclude that this methodology (simple and rapid in-situ spectral measurements with appropriate analyses), can be employed to assess dust in both indoor and outdoor environments (in small and high dust content). This information can be used for initial decision making, improving indoor conditions, and tracking dust contamination following environmental change.

Assessment of health risk attributed to heavy metals of settled dust in the elementary schools of Bandar Abbas

Background and Objective: Heavy metal (HM) pollution of settled dust on the interior surfaces of elementary schools may affect the health of young students; hence, the health risk of such pollution should be assessed. Therefore, the aims of this study were to measure the content of heavy metals in the settled dust in the indoor of elementary schools in Bandar Abbas and to assess the attributed ...

Reflectance spectroscopy of indoor settled dust in Tel Aviv, Israel: comparison between the spring and the summer seasons

The influence of mineral and anthropogenic dust components on the VIS-NIR-SWIR spectral reflectance of artificial laboratory dust mixtures was evaluated and used in combination with Partial Least Squares (PLS) regression to construct a model that correlates the dust content with its reflectance. Small amounts of dust (0.018–0.33 mg/cm2) were collected using glass traps placed in different indoo...

Dust deposition on the decks of the Mars Exploration Rovers: 10 years of dust dynamics on the Panoramic Camera calibration targets

The Panoramic Cameras on NASA's Mars Exploration Rovers have each returned more than 17,000 images of their calibration targets. In order to make optimal use of this data set for reflectance calibration, a correction must be made for the presence of air fall dust. Here we present an improved dust correction procedure based on a two-layer scattering model, and we present a dust reflectance spect...

Studying a New Infrared Reflective Polymer Coating

Although, that the solar energy is important for life continuity, there is need to protect large buildings from these radiations in summer and if the buildings are permitted to take these radiations, the cost of cooling will be too much. One of the most effective methods used to solve this problem is to coat buildings with specific pigments that reflect the solar infrared radiation. This wo...

ارزیابی طیف‌سنجی مرئی و مادون قرمز نزدیک در برآورد مقادیر فلزات سنگین سرب و نیکل در خاک (مطالعه موردی: اراضی شهر ری)

Reflectance spectroscopy is a fast and safe method to predict soil physicochemical and biological properties in low cost ways. Traditional methods to determine soil properties require spending a lot of time and money so that farmers are generally reluctant to use the results of laboratory measurements in soil and water management. Reflectance spectroscopy in the spectral range of 400-2500 nm (V...
